Black Balloon

Applicant: RE:mix

Project: Black Balloon

Grant award: £303

RE:mix runs in the East End of Folkestone and gives young people from Folkestone's most deprived wards opportunities to work on creative projects.

This project gave them an opportunity make an ambitious short film in the landscape that surrounds the area.

Using the dramatic landscapes in and around Folkestone Warren Country Park the film was shot in the hills, valleys, woodland and on the shoreline to create a spoof Western. The film follows a silent protagonist as he is chased over the changing terrain, visually telling the story of biodiversity in the Warren. The shooting of the film will entailed spending 3 Saturdays in the landscape with small teams of young people and another larger group rambling trip to scout for locations. During this time young people were taught more about the environment they're in, and how they can engage with it beyond the project.

The project ended with a public screening including a talk about the filming.
