Conservation Traineeships in Dover

Location: Based at Old Park Hill (close to Whitfield Hill) and Dover Town Council, with some work at other sites in Dover

Want to learn new skills: grounds maintenance, nature conservation, community engagement, office skills? Enjoy outdoor and/or indoor work? If yes, then we want to hear from you!

Trainees will work with Kent Wildlife Trust staff and volunteers and will be based at Old Park Hill (close to Whitfield Hill) and Dover Town Council, with some work at other sites in Dover. The traineeships are usually between 3-6 months and open to applicants aged 17+; the time committed to the project can be flexible to suit your other commitments, from as little as one day per fortnight to 3 days per week to suit. Priority will be given to people in the Dover area.

You will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and training in a very supportive work environment in the following areas:

  • Countryside/grounds maintenance skills, such as constructing livestock fencing, grass mowing (brush-cutting)
  • Assisting with public engagement and events
  • Working with children
  • Monitoring wildlife on nature reserves and learning wildlife identification skills
  • Livestock management and husbandry
  • Office skills including Word, Excel, and social media
  • Emergency first aid, fire safety, risk assessment, manual handling, group leadership
  • Personal confidence, organisation and leadership through responsibility and working with a dedicated team of professionals and committed volunteers

Other training may be available, subject to resources and in agreement with the Project Manager.
